Guadalcanal opposition to cannery project

In Solomon Islands, land-owning groups in Doma, west Guadalcanal, say they do not want any fishing factory to be built in their area.

This follows a proposal by Korean Enterprise Limited to build a fish factory at Doma.

But landowner spokesman John Tadakusu has told the Solomon Star newspaper they will never allow any such projects to go ahead because of their environmental and social concerns.

He says they will relay their worries to premier Stephen Panga.

Doma is also the proposed site for the future capital of Guadalcanal Province.

Korean Enterprise Limited has about six hectares of registered land in Doma, on which it plans to build the fish factory.
