Vanuatu's Tangoa Island still waiting on water supply a fortnight after quake

Police on Vanuatu's Tangoa Island say they haven't received any help since an earthquake damaged the island's main water supply about two weeks ago.

The 6.5-magnitude quake damaged buildings, foodgardens and a water supply system.

The system, running on solar power, pumps water up a one-hundred metre-high cliff to a reservoir.

Inspector Paul Thomson says they need fresh water.

"We haven't got any help. We are still waiting. The water supply that was damaged has not been fixed. We need the government to supply a watertank or fix the water supply that has been established to the villages of Tangoa."

Inspector Paul Thomson says they have been surviving on mainly rainwater in the past two weeks.
