Doctors to work out of dispensaries in American Samoa

10:20 am on 29 June 2009

The 1.3 million US dollars American Samoa's Department of Health received in stimulus funding has made it possible to hire doctors to staff outlying dispensaries, and also upgrade equipment for primary care.

The Acting Director of Health Tuiasina Dr Salamo Laumoli said the Amouli dispensary will have doctors available for the first time to treat patients.

There will also be a full time dentist assigned to Amouli.

Tuiasina said for the first time the dispensaries will be able to provide both preventative and primary care.

He said hopefully by making doctors available in the dispensaries this would help alleviate congestion at the LBJ emergency Room and cut down waiting time to see the doctor.
