A senior commander in the Papua New Guinea Defence Force says PNG soldiers have benefited greatly from the experience of serving in the Regional Assistance Mission in Solomon Islands.

Lieutenant Colonel Siale Diro, on a four day visit to RAMSI headquarters in Honiara, says that Papua New Guinea greatly values the experience that RAMSI provides to help a close neighbour.

Lt. Col. Diro says to have this chance to help Solomon Islands get back on its feet is very meaningful.

He says the practical impact of RAMSI on the PNGDF has also been invaluable with soldiers picking up skills from their Australian, New Zealand, Tongan and previously, Fiji, counterparts.

Lt. Col. Diro says this sort of experience transforms soldiers.
