Four people have now been confirmed with swine flu in New Caledonia.

All have been overseas recently and are being treated with anti-viral medication.

Our correspondent in Noumea, Claudine Wery, says the four are stable.

"We have four cases. They're isolated in a health centre close to the city. The four cases are four people coming from Australia, so it's imported cases. There are also three suspected cases, subject to investigation. We don't know the results yet."

Claudine Wery says the health ministry has stepped up its public awareness campaign.
