335 lawyers have been issued certificates allowing them to practice under Fiji's new legal order.

Under the new Legal Practitioners Decree, lawyers now have to register with the Chief Registrar if they are to continue practising beyond June.

Lawyers used to register with the Fiji Law Society.

Fijilive reports the chief registrar will now be scrutinising audited reports of trust accounts handled by lawyers before renewing their practising licenses.

Some lawyers have also been granted practising certificates for three months until the acting chief registrar clarifies issues regarding their professional performance.
