Fiji's right to be involved in regional trade and economic co-operation agreements, such as PICTA, PACER-plus, has been backed by the Melanesian Spearhead Group .

The leaders at their meeting on Friday decided that the exclusion of Fiji from discussions of these agreements would be invalid.

They says this would lead to decisions related to those agreements becoming null and void.

The Fiji Live news site says the leaders also acknowledged the central role Fiji plays in the Pacific region, particularly within the Pacific Islands Forum and its associated agencies.

The MSG leaders have called on members of the Pacific Islands Forum and development partners to engage in open and constructive dialogue with Fiji.

As well, leaders noted the importance of Fiji being continuously engaged in the Pacific Islands Forum and the MSG.
