The Senate in the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas has rejected the passage of a House of Representatives bill that would impose a fee on plastic checkout bags.
All six senators present at the session expressed their opposition to the legislation.
It was suggested that, instead of killing the legislation, they would just return it to the Senate committee for further deliberation.
The senators agreed.
One of the senators said he was concerned with the provisions of the bill, specifically the fees that are going to be charged against the customers.
