The Public School System in the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas has decided to delay the regular opening of classes for the new school year from August to September.
It made the same move last year.
The Education Commissioner Dr Rita Sablan said all 20 public schools will begin opening their campuses on September 8.
Dr Sablan said the three major purposes behind the delay were to save on utility costs, to give the system more time to hire teachers, and to complete school repairs and renovations during the summer period.
