Split emerges in Vanuatu Media Association ahead of hosting PINA

A split has emerged in the Media Association of Vanuatu, or MAV, less than two weeks before it hosts the biennial convention of the Pacific Islands News Association.

35 members of the MAV have pulled out after the executive failed to censure a member Mark Lowen for his allegedly derogatory remarks after an assault on the Daily Post publisher, Marc Neil-Jones.

The 35 claim the MAV failed in its role to protect media freedom by remaining silent about that attack and an assault on another journalist.

However, the two say a MAV media release on the incidents seemed to imply they deserved to be attacked.
