Paris residence of French Polynesia's Flosse ransacked

1:35 pm on 20 July 2009

Reports from French Polynesia says the Paris residence of the veteran politician Gaston Flosse has been ransacked while he was asleep.

Mr Flosse has told a Tahiti blog site that he awoke to find drawers emptied, possessions strewn about and the contents of his briefcase emptied outside next to his car.

The report says nothing appears to be missing apart from the remote control in his car's glovebox to open the main gate which the intruders left wide open when they departed.

The report says none of his guests, including one of his grandsons, heard anything suspicious.

Mr Flosse has lodged a complaint with police.

He says while he has been living a nightmare for months, this latest incident is incomprehensible.

The ransacking came after he had returned from Papeete to Paris where the French Senate is this week due to consider lifting his immunity as part of a probe into alleged corruption.
