The Federated States of Micronesia has confirmed its first case of swine flu.

The Marianas Variety reports that a 27-year-old man from the island of Weno in Chuuk state had been diagnosed with swine flu.

The patient developed a headache, fever, cough, sore throat and runny nose three weeks ago and was seen at Chuuk State Hospital where he tested negative.

However, a sample sent to the WHO Center in Australia confirmed the pandemic H1N1.

The patient reported no travel history and no contact with sick animals.

He had recently been vaccinated for seasonal influenza.
