Palau's President and cabinet to get massive salary increases

Palau's President Johnson Toribiong has justified nearly doubling the salaries of he and members of his cabinet contained in the Fiscal Year 2010 budget.

In a letter to the chair of the House Committee on Ways and Means President Toribiong says the proposal is fair and logical and the salaries will be commensurate the responsibilities of their offices.

Under the proposal the president will recieve a salary of 90,000 US dollars, up from $50,000, the Vice President would be paid $80,000, up from $45,000 and cabinet members will get $50,000, an increase from $30,000.
