Fiji's interim Prime Minister has told Fiji Live he is willing to engage with the Pacific Islands Forum about the country's future but only on his own terms.
Commodore Frank Bainimarama says he is keen to talk with the international community, including Australia and New Zealand, but will not budge from the 2014 election date.
Both the Forum and the Commonwealth want Fiji to announce a 2010 election date.
Commodore Bainimarama told Fiji Live reforms need to be set in place in the next five years in preparation for a truly democratic election.
He said neighbouring Prime Ministers in Australia and New Zealand need to fully understand the Fiji situation and differences can only be sorted out through dialogue.
Taking over the Forum chair at the Cairns meeting yesterday, Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said the Forum had made its view clear on the situation in Fiji.
