The U.S Navy's military sealift cargo ship, Richard Byrd, is this week continuing its humanitarian mission around the Pacific in Solomon Islands.

The ship is carrying medical, dental and engineering specialists which allows it to undertake civic action programmes at various locations around the Pacific.

Dubbed the Pacific Partnership 2009, the Richard Byrd includes personnel from Australia, Canada South Korea, Chile and the US.

The Solomons is the third of five Pacific countries that the mobile mission will provide aid to this year.

The ship will be based in the Solomons for 14 days and visit Honiara, Auki and Visale.
