The Fiji Sugar Cane Growers says it will request assistance from the Sugar Ministry for farmers in Sigatoka who will now have to supply cane to the Lautoka Mill using lorries.

Acting grower's council chief executive, Sundresh Chetty, told the Fiji Times he has written to the Sugar Ministry on behalf of cane farmers affected in the Kavanagasau/Rarawai tramline from Batiri point to Kavanagasau.

He said the council was disappointed with the outcome of the tribunal's decision.

Mr Chetty says this decision will affect around 600 growers in the area who rely on the tramline to supply their cane to the mill.
