The police in Fiji say as it continues to crack down on marijuana use, it's disappointing to see some communities have not taken note of it's drug education programmes.

Fiji police have made a number of drug confiscations recently, with seizures of more than 500 dope plants from different farms in Fiji's outlying islands.

Police spokesman, Sergeant Atunaisa Sokomuri, says police now know that farmers harvest their drugs to coincide with special festivals throught the year and Christmas and New Years.

But he says it's disheartening to see that the police efforts of community education has been falling on deaf ears.

"E arlier in the year we had did several awareness throughout the region we have our special teams listing the main areas where they grow marijuana, letting people know the dangers of these drugs but after two months, we now see that people are still planting marijuana in these areas."
