Relative says Tonga's Transport Minister ducking responsibility

One of the relatives still grieving after the ferry tragedy in Tonga says the country's Transport Minister is evading responsibility by resigning from his post.

A week after the Princess Ashika went down, 93-people are still missing.

The Minister, Paul Karalus, announced his resignation yesterday amid mounting criticism.

He says it is not an admission of guilt, and he will give his full assistance to a Royal Commission of Inquiry.

A woman staying in the makeshift camp of relatives at the shipping corporation, Sia Amanaki Puna, says Mr Karalus is running from his responsibilities and should stay on until the inquiry is finished.

"They lied, they lied to the people, Paul Karalus has to sit there until the final result is finish, then he has to resign, I want him to resign after we got the final result."

Paul Karalus says his ministry performed with due care and diligence.
