French Polynesian MP quits To Tatou Aia

French Polynesia's pro-autonomy To Tatou Aia coalition says it has acknowledged the resignation of one of its assembly members, Fernand Roomataaroa, who had been elected on its list last year.

Mr Roomataaroa last week decided to quit the group to become an independent in the assembly, where the To Tatou Aia is in coalition with the pro-independence Union For Democracy.

The To Tatou Aia has highlighted his changing political positions, adding that it wishes that he may find the stability which he has obviously been lacking since his entry on the political scene.

In May last year, he had been made a minister after he had been in talks with the opposition which at the time fuelled speculation that he could switch sides to bring down the government.
