The British government has contributed 8,000 US dollars to Tonga's relief fund for families who lost relatives in the Princess Ashika ferry disaster.

The Matangi Tonga website says visiting British parliamentarians told the Prime Minister, Dr. Feleti Sevele, of the donation during their meeting in Nuku'alofa.

After the tragedy, Queen Elizabeth sent a message of condolence to King George Tupou V who left Nuku'alofa for a four-month holiday in Europe shortly after the vessel sank.
