Mayor of Honolulu awarded "Hawaii's Distinguished Citizen of 2009"

The Aloha Council, Boy Scouts of America in Honolulu has honored Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann as "Hawaii's Distinguished Citizen of 2009".

Mayor Hannemann, who is the first person of Samoan ancestry to be elected Honolulu Mayor, won re-election last year for a second term in office.

According to the Aloha Council, in a little more than four years, Mayor Hannemann has "amassed a remarkable record of achievement.

His strong emphasis on public safety has led to Honolulu being named by the FBI as one of America's safest big cities with national accreditation of both the police and fire departments.
