Daylight saving bill in Samoa

Samoa may join other countries and introduce daylight savings if a bill to be tabled in Parliament tomorrow is enacted.

The Daylight Saving Bill 2009 will give the country an extra hour of daylight in the evening for a period that will be declared by the Head of State.

According to the bill the introduction of daylight saving in Samoa is aimed at cutting the country's mounting fuel bill.

In November of last year, the Samoa Cabinet approved a report by a committee appointed to assess possible benefits to institute daylight saving time in Samoa.

According to the committee's report, daylight saving time will have significant benefits to the country.

These including promoting energy conservation, increasing opportunities for leisure, enhance public health and safety and economic growth.
