Digicel telecommunications begins operations in Nauru

Digicel telecommunications has been launched in the Republic of Nauru.

The President of Nauru, Marcus Stephen made the first call on the new Digicel network at a press conference yesterday afternoon.

He said they are thrilled to welcome Digicel to Nauru, offering Nauruans access to GSM mobile telecommunications for the first time.

Nauru is currently working towards economic development and Digicel's entrance into the country has been seen as essential to the continued growth of the nation.

Digicel Pacific CEO, Vanessa Slowey, said Digicel is committed to making an important

contribution to the growth and development of Nauru economically and socially.

Since its launch in the South Pacific in 2006, Digicel has become the fastest-growing mobile operator in the Pacific, with current operations in Samoa, Tonga, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea and Fiji.
