World Bank to set up office in Solomon Islands

10:44 am on 8 September 2009

The Solomon Islands Government and the World Bank have signed an establishment agreement to formalise the setting up of a World Bank office in the country.

The World Bank opened an office in Honiara last year, and the signing of this agreement represents the last step in the establishment.

The Bank's country manager, Edith Bowles, says the office means the Bank can work more closely with the people and government of Solomon Islands to support their development aspirations.

In Solomon Islands the Bank provides funding and technical support to assist in the improvement of telecommunications, health, energy, and rural development.
