Duncan Kerr to quit politics

5:20 pm on 10 September 2009

Australia's parliamentary secretary for Pacific Island Affairs, Duncan Kerr, has announced that he'll quit the post at the end of next month and that he'll leave politics at the next election.

In a statement, Mr Kerr says the past 18 months have seen a revitalisation of Australia's relations with its Pacific neighbours.

Mr Kerr, who is 57, was elected to parliament in 1987 and also served as justice minister under Paul Keating.
