Samoa to launch campaign to combat growing levels of rape and incest

A nationwide campaign to say no to rape and incest in Samoa is to be launched in October.

Samoa Victim Support Group spokesperson, Viliamu Paese, says the campaign was supposed to go ahead this month but had to be delayed given the focus on the switch to driving on the left hand side of the road.

He says the campaign came about because the growing number of rapes, many committed against young children.

"Yknow its still growing this rape especially within the families, from the biological fathers, uncles, brothers and some of the church ministers who are involved. That's why, because we are the victim support and we help and support and we counsel the victims."

Viliamu Paese says October the 16th is the launch date for the campaign, with a planned march on Apia's streets the week after.
