Fiji's interim leader, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, says the country is playing catch up in the area of technology and communications because of its colonial history and subsequent years of mismanagement, corruption and lack of planning.
The Commodore told the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation conference in Nadi that in order to fulfill its objectives, modern technology and communications must be used effectively by government.
Fiji Live reports him saying that Fiji is having to catch up with its laws, understand and introduce new technology and put in place transparent and accountable processes and systems.
Commodore Bainimarama says the private sector must also be encouraged while partnering with government.
But he says meeting the demands and expectations of consumers and competition will require proper management.
