Less than three weeks before it's closure, COS Samoa Packing cannery has made a 5,000 US dollar donation to a district in American Samoa were the plant is located.

Samoa Packing is located in the village of Atu'u, which is constituent district number 10 and includes the village of Leloaloa.

The district is represented in the House of Representatives by lawmaker, Vaitoa Hans Langkilde, who sought financial assistance from Samoa Packing for community improvement projects.

Samoa Packing's, John DeBeer, says he is pleased that the company is able to provide financial support, as a corporate citizen within the district.

He says the company hopes it's contribution will provide some lasting improvement in the district as Samoa Packing prepares to depart the territory at the end of September.

In addition, COS offered assistance to help improve water drainage problems, shore up small retaining projects directing water and flooding away from dwelling areas, and make minor repairs to walking pathways and access roads in the district's villages.
