American Samoa's Governor, Togiola Tulafono, has revealed that the American Samoa Government has made an offer to buy the Chicken of the Sea Samoa Packing plant at Atu'u.

The plant which currently employs more than 2,000 people is due to close down on September 30.

The governor says he can not reveal how much the purchase price is but he says that he has already informed Fono leaders that a loan request will be made for the purchase.

He expects a decision from the Chicken of the Sea by early this week.

The governor explained that he is in negotiations with an overseas company which will run the cannery once the purchase is finalised.

He says employing people will be the government's main aim as opposed to a commercial company whose main focus will be to earn a profit.
