French Polynesia cable project investigated

3:14 pm on 22 September 2009

Reports from French Polynesia say one of the judges probing the so-called OPT affair is now in Paris to look into the granting of a contract to lay an underwater cable between Tahiti and Hawaii.

The report in the Depeche de Tahiti daily newspaper says the judge arrived with police officers as they are to question several people about the Honotua cable deal.

No names have been given but the paper says the judge will spend about a week in France.

This comes after the public prosecutor in Papeete told Tahitipresse that there will be indictments.

Work on laying the cable is to begin in November and be complete in June.
