The director of the United Nations Development Programme's gender team, Winnie Byanyima, is in Fiji this week to hold consultations with UN staff and stakeholders on gender and development.
Ms Byanyima, from the New York based Bureau for Development Policy, will discuss gender equality in the Pacific with regional development agencies, civil society organisations and other stakeholders.
Ms Byanyima will focus on gender considerations for disaster preparedness and recovery, especially in light of the tsunami in Samoa and Tonga, the gender dimension of the global economic crisis in the Pacific, gender and HIV in the Pacific and gender based violence, amongst other topics.
