Health authorities in Vanuatu hope a new nursing school, which opened last week, will help address a shortage of medical staff in the country.
The director general of health Marc Bebe says health statistics show there are 1-point-4 nurses to every 1000 people in Vanuatu, which is not satisfactory.
He says the new school will also train new nurses to replace those who are already at the age of the retirement.
The new nursing school cost seven million US dollars and was financed by the Agence de Developpement Francaise, or AFD.
