Co-founder of New Caledonia's Future Together Party resigns

The co-founder of New Caledonia's Future Together Party, Didier Leroux, has announced his resignation from the grouping, just three months after quitting its presidency following poor results in the May polls.

Mr Leroux formed the more centrist anti-independence party ahead of the 2004 general election, in which it emerged as the dominant force but rifts since then have seen it fracture.

He has been critical of the recent coalition arrangement, which has gathered all the anti-independence parties.
