American Samoans have till end of November to ask for federal disaster relief

American Samoa families which suffered property losses as a result of the earthquake and tsunami five weeks ago have been given until the end of this month to register for federal government assistance.

So far more than 6,000 homeowners, renters and business owners have asked the Federal Emergency Management Agency or FEMA for assistance.

Disaster assistance can include money for short-term rental needs and home repairs, or low-interest loans to repair or replace damaged property not covered by insurance.

Close to 7 million US dollars in federal assistance has been approved for disaster relief so far.

FEMA says November 30th is the final day to register at the Disaster Recovery Center for help with therecovery from property damage caused by the disasters.
