The American Samoa Department of Homeland Security director, Mike Sala, has confirmed that the Federal Bureau of Investigation or FBI has an active investigation in homeland security funds awarded to American Samoa.

Last week the U.S. television network CNN reported it had learned that the FBI is conducting an investigation into exactly what did happen to the federal preparedness dollars sent to American Samoa.

Mike Sala says the FBI investigation began more than a year ago.

He says he trusts that the investigation will clear the air on many issues, including allegations of government corruption.
