Nailatikau to be sworn in as Fiji President tomorrow

4:20 pm on 4 November 2009

The swearing in ceremony for Fiji's new President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau is to be held tomorrow.

Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama confirmed this at a media briefing in Suva, one week after he told a local newspaper that Ratu Epeli would be Fiji's fourth President.

He was appointed Vice-President following the abrogation of the 1997 Constitution in April and was later appointed in an acting capacity following the retirement of his predecessor Ratu Josefa Iloilo in July.

Ratu Epeli, a son-in-law of former President Ratu Mara, is a former commander of the Fiji military and has also served as parliament's Speaker.
