At least eight people, including a six month old baby, have been killed in a bus accident in Samoa.

More than 20 others were injured in the crash, some of them seriously.

Our correspondent in Samoa, Autagavaia Tipi Autagavaia reports.

"Police sources say that the bus was heading back to the village when the accident occurred. An eyewitness has told me that one factor was speeding because the bus swerved and went off the road then turning upside down wheels up and this is why eight people were killed because it's a wooden bus and the bus was loaded with more than 30 people."

Autagavaia Tipi Autagavaia says this is the deadliest road accident in the country's history.

He also says the police are searching for the driver of the bus who fled the scene after the accident.
