Out of jail, Solomons Kemakeza wins back seat lost last year

The former Solomon Islands prime minister, Sir Allan Kemakeza, has been sworn in as MP for the Savo/Russell constituency after winning a by-election for the seat he had lost a year ago.

Sir Allan had to quit the seat because he had been jailed for authorising militants to raid a law firm in 2002 when he was Prime Minister .

He has been sworn in although it has been established that he should have been disqualified as candidate because his suspended sentence is still active.

The speaker says the losing candidates can continue with putting together their petition to challenge his election.
