8:53 am on 17 November 2009

A new initiative to improve career development opportunities for people across Pacific nations has been launched in Wellington.

It has come during the Fifth International Symposium on Career Development and Public Policy, which is being hosted for the first time in New Zealand by Career Services.

Its CEO Lester Oakes, says the symposium aims to share information about career development initiatives that have been proven to work effectively in various countries.

He says it's the perfect platform for New Zealand and the Pacific to look at ways they can learn from others and build stronger career development networks.

Representatives at the meeting include Tonga's Employment Minister, Lord Tuivakano, the Secretary of Government for Niue, and Samoa the Cook Islands and Solomon Islands.
