Papua New Guinea's Prime Minister told Apec counterparts at the weekend that the unprecedented levels of trade forged between them through PNG's Liquified Natural Gas project would boost their economies.
The newspaper, The National, reports that Sir Michael Somare's address to the 17th Apec leaders' summit in Singapore was an endorsement of the PNG LNG development as a sustainable stimulus to trade and economic growth within the Apec region.
PNG is promising the project will deliver more clean energy to the global community with Sir Michael assuring the global community of more reliable energy supplies.
He said employment requirements generated by the project could not be fully met from within PNG alone.
As a result, PNG would be looking to other regional partners to provide the skilled workforce.
