There are plans in Papua New Guinea to develop a mobile money system to help low income households.
A new report outlines how a such a banking system might develop, the benefits it could bring for a wide range of people and what existing networks it might tap into.
Freddy Austli from the United Nations Development Programme says the report shows PNG has the infrastructure to support such a development.
He says a mobile money system would make people more financially secure and help them build more sustainable livelihoods.
