Fiji police say marijuana growers turn themselves in

Fiji police say they are receiving help from marijuana growers as they try to clamp down on the crime.

They say they've seized marijuana, and other assets, worth around 50 million US dollars so far this year.

The police spokesperson, Ema Mua, says police have been working with the growers, who they have dubbed drug warlords, to try and stop the cultivation.

"We have this big drug awareness thing that is going on and this why there are so many finds because the drug warlords themselves are coming forward and taking police right to the farms that cultivate these things and have them destroyed before it reaches other people in the nation and elsewhere."

Ema Mua says Fiji could not absorb the quantities of marijuana found and police are investigating whether it is being exported into the Pacific or beyond.
