Solomons Public Service given code of conduct

9:07 pm on 2 December 2009

The Solomon Islands government has this week for the first time issued a set of rules of behaviour for public servants.

The Code of Conduct outlines the responsibilities and required work performance for the officers.

The Minister for Public Service, Milner Tozaka, says the code covers five areas.

"Respect for the law and order, respect for people; on integrity it's acting with honesty, integrity and transparency, disclosing fraud; on diligence it covers areas like maintaining a high level of work attendance and punctuality."

Milner Tozaka says it also includes efficiency, which includes the proper management of resources.

He says public servants and the public will be thoroughly informed about the rules.
