Solomon Islands Treasury says state finances very tight

8:38 pm on 7 December 2009

The Solomon Islands Ministry of Finance and Treasury says state finances will remain very tight for the rest of the year.

The Ministry's Permanent Secretary, Shadrach Fanega, has issued an update on the goverment's finances in response to public concerns.

He says the global economic crisis has hit the country's export sector hard, resulting in the government being unable to collect the revenues it had aimed to collect in 2009.

But Mr Fanega says the Government remains committed to delivering the promises it has made to the people.
