Cyclone Mick due to hit Fiji Monday evening

Weather forecasters are predicting that Fiji will be hit during Monday night by a tropical cyclone that has been named, Mick.

The cyclone was about 290 kilometres northwest of Nadi at midnight and is intensifying.

Close to it's centre, Mick is estimated to have average winds of up to 75 kilometres an hour with gusts up to 90 kilometres an hour.

The cyclone is currently moving southeast at 20 kilometres an hour.

The cyclone is expected to bring damaging gale force winds, squally thunderstorms and flooding to low lying areas.
