Restructuring underway in Fiji police

7:40 am on 4 January 2010

The police force in Fiji is being restructured with many older and experienced officers retired and replaced by younger police, selected by the Commissioner Esala Teleni.

The police spokesperson, Ema Dimila, says the newly promoted personnel start their jobs this week.

"We've got a new team of operational officers, we've got a new Deputy Commissioner of Police, we've also got a few new directors and the operations people on the ground too, in terms of leadership roles, have changed. This is all for our, you know, strengthening our vision, perhaps, working towards the vision and all that."
