A former Fiji Law Society president says magistrates who accept appointments under the current regime are very vulnerable.
Isireli Fa made the comments after three recently appointed magistrates, Mary Muir, Elsie Hudson and Eparama Rokoika, were sacked.
No reason has been given for their terminations.
The president's office says the attorney-general is the only official to comment but he has told Fiji media he won't reveal what prompted the sackings.
The three were among new appointments to the bench late last year when the judiciary was reconstituted after the former president said he had abrogated the 1997 constitution.
Mr Fa says the termination comes as no surprise.
"The termination of the magistrates must be for a cause. It'll be interesting to find out the cause for their termination. For those who accept appointments under the current regime, they do place themselves at a risk of being terminated in the manner which they have."

Two other magistrates sworn-in at the same time also had their contracts terminated later in the year.
