Cook Islands tourism figures show that last year visitor numbers exceeded 100,000 for the first time.

This marks an increase of seven percent over 2008.

There has been a particular increase of visitors from Australia, with numbers up 34 percent.

This is expected to get a further boost as Air New Zealand is to offer direct flights from Sydney to Rarotonga from July.
