There are reports in American Samoa that the Department of Education is having problems with paying public school teachers.

Samoa News says it's received several phone calls over the last two months about teachers not being paid, for some going on several pay periods, while others for one pay period.

Based on sources, the newspaper reports nearly 50 education department employees, many of whom are paid under a special education grant funding, weren't paid during last week's government payday.

It says some teachers were told last Friday there would be a supplementary run of the payroll for them, but it was unclear if any of them eventually received a paycheck.
