A New Zealand film, There Once Was An Island, has won the top prize at the International Pacific Documentary Film Festival in French Polynesia.

The film by Briar March and Lyn Collie looks at the plight of people faced by climate change on Takuu atoll in Papua New Guinea's Bougainville province.

The public's prize has gone to a French Polynesian film called Homeland, the Return to Rurutu.

Three special prizes were awarded to a Hawaiian film Nono Newa, to the Australian film Bastardy and to the documentary about New Zealand's Topp Twins.
